Abiodun pledges to address LG employee challenges

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has assured local government employees across the state that their request to hire new staff members for the local government system will be dealt with promptly.

Abiodun said he would do so to address the gap that had existed for many years after the retirement of some local government employees.

The governor made the pledge during an interaction with members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Thursday.

He said that despite the challenges his government faces due to the lack of funds, he will continue to do his best to ensure that every part of the state and every local government can really develop.

He said: “We will examine the issue of consolidation and parity that some heads of local government agencies are advocating for equality between them and permanent secretaries in state ministries.

“I promise to address the issue of leave bonuses, starting January 2023, and increase allocations for the payment of pensions to local government employees.”
