A notorious cell phone thief, identified simply as Lucky, has been killed by an angry mob in the Iyara community in Warri, Delta State’s Warri South Local Government Area.
It was learned that the phone thief, allegedly a member of a gang of mobsters that specialized in expropriating their victims of valuables, was caught in action at the area’s popular Akara Junction when he assaulted a young girl.
Sources said Lucky, in his desperation to forcibly dispose of the young girl’s cell phone, stabbed the girl in one of her arms separately, but the girl allegedly refused to let go of her phone despite the injuries.
As it turned out, as the battle continued, the girl raised the alarm and called for help, much to the chagrin of her attacker.
Fortunately for the girl, she reportedly received positive responses from some of the area’s male residents who came to her aid, overpowering Lucky and stabbing him separately.
However, Lucky reportedly managed to escape with multiple injuries and ran to the nearby Iyara roundabout along Cemetery Road, where he later gave up the ghost due to blood loss.
When contacted, Police PR Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.
