FCTA To Strengthen Community Police, Resuscitate G-7 In September

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), in its effort to effectively protect the lives and property of residents in the entire 8,000 square kilometers of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has decided to expand the existing synergies between the security agencies. and strengthen the various communities in the area.

The Committee has decided to work with the various communities to build a viable vigilante network in the rural communities, especially in the communities prone to kidnapping, banditry and terrorism cases.

Similarly, at its Thursday meeting in Gwarinpa I district, Abuja, the FCT Security Committee also refined the arrangements for the official launch of the G-7 resuscitated joint security operation in September 2022, involving states bordering the FCT. .

The resuscitation of the G-7 Joint Security Operation is expected to fight crime and crime in every nook and cranny of the Member States, especially the increasing cases of kidnapping, banditry and terrorism in FCT’s rural areas and states bordering the FCT .

The FCT Minister and Chairman of the FCT Security Committee, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, represented at the meeting by the Foreign Minister, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani-Aliyu, who spoke to journalists after the meeting, said the Community Police Initiative of the federal government will be fully encouraged and supported in the FCT.

In a statement issued Friday to journalists in Abuja, the FCT Director of Information and Communications, Muhammad Hazmat Sule, noted the FCT administration’s support for security agencies to enable them to responsibilities to protect life and property efficiently in the FCT.

She said the government’s support to the security services is bearing fruit as crime rates in the area have fallen significantly in the past month.

She said; “The security forces in the FCT have their game. People who have nothing to do here are turned away. Some of them have different guises, such as begging and street trading. They usually come from neighboring countries and cause security breaches here. That is why we decided to send them.”

Tijani-Aliyu praised the residents of the FCT for collaborating with the security services, which she says have helped reduce crime rates as well as countering fake news.

She therefore urged residents to always report suspicious movements to law enforcement agencies and monitor the information they receive on social media platforms so as not to be fake news carriers.

According to the statement, the FCT’s Police Commissioner said that the G-7 joint security operation being revived has had the support of sister security forces, as well as the police commissioners in the Member States, who all agree with us on the need to collectively get rid of these criminals.

He revealed that the security forces have gathered useful and actionable information and would soon deal with all criminals within their jurisdiction.

Babaji attributed the fall in crime rates in the FCT to constant flashpoint raids; saying with the deployment of additional 89 newly recruited police officers to the FCT, the Commando is ready to go after criminals in their hideouts.

The meeting of the FCT Security Committee was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the FCT, Olusade Adesola; the chief of staff to the FCT minister, Bashir Mai-Borno; Executive Secretary, FCDA, Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad; FCT Mandate Secretaries; Senior Special Assistant to the Secretary of Security, and representatives of all security agencies in the FCT.

Others chaired the FCT’s six area councils: representatives of the FCT Traditional Council, the Christian Association of Nigeria and head Iman of the National Mosque.
