Group condemns call for Ayu to resign as PDP National Chairman

Benue Advocates for Good Governance (BAGG) has condemned calls by some members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to force Dr. Iyorchia Ayu to resign as the party’s national chairman.

According to the group, at this point the party needs members to organize themselves and formulate positions, as well as their party’s blueprints for the buy-in of all Nigerians.

The group made this known in a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Hon. Terngu Aze and National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Taiyol Terhemba Abraham over the weekend.

However, they urged party members to avoid internal wars or take ego trips.

The statement reads: “We support the decision of the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, to remain in office. It is a decision born of courage, pragmatism and constitutionalism.

“In fact, we dare to say that those asking for his resignation are not only sponsored agents of destabilization, they are victims of their own ignorance.

“Besides, how can you say you want peace, and you come to the table with preconditions? They say that Ayu has to step down for them before they can confer. Is that how you seek peace? Isn’t that a declaration of war on the party?

“The condition of Dr. Ayu to swap all positions of National Working Committee (NWC) members from the South with those from the North is patriotic, selfless and informed.”

However, Aze advised those seeking Ayu’s withdrawal to avoid bitterness and be willing to make sacrifices to forge a united front to defeat the APC in the 2023 general election.

“We should all consider the greater problem of our dear country’s current challenges caused by the mismanagement of the APC-led Federal Government to close ranks on us to save and rebuild Nigeria, 2023.”

The group also took the opportunity to congratulate the Ayu-led leadership for successfully leading a credible and transparent national convention/presidential primaries.
