A female worshiper was shot and killed by gunmen in the local government of Plateau state in Riyom on Saturday night.
The deceased identified as Lyop Dalyop is believed to have been murdered shortly after returning from church on Saturday.
The incident, it was further learned, took place in the Bachi community around 8 p.m.
The national president of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Dalyop Mwantiri, confirmed the attack on Saturday PUNCH.
The youth leader said: “A few minutes ago, gunmen suspected of being Fulani militias killed a Mrs Lyop Dalyop from the villages of Bangai in Bachi district, Riyom LGA.
“From what I have been told, the incident occurred at approximately 8:05 PM today, August 27, 2022, shortly after she returned from sweeping COCIN Church Bangai
“She went out to relax after returning from sweeping the church for tomorrow’s service. Then an armed Fulani appeared out of nowhere and shot her in the head.
“The attack happened after a Fulani boy spied on the area earlier in the evening.
“Some neighbors who heard the gunshot rushed to her house and found her in the pool of her own blood. She died a few minutes later.”
Plateau State Police Command spokesman Alabo Alfred could not be reached for comment on the attack as his phones were switched off at the time this report was completed.
