Incessant ASUU Attack: The Way Forward

The main reason for the incessant union action that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) needs to bring down tools is to find a solid foundation where the government can carry out their demands for the betterment of the system. The two sides have discussed and agreed on this issue extensively since 2009, but it is all talk and no action on the part of the federal government. I wonder why the government agrees on things that don’t seem feasible just to get the university teachers back to classes; this is very unfortunate.

Although the federal government is standing between the devil and the deep blue sea on this point because when it implements the demands of ASUU many unions inside and outside the education sector will start their agitation because none of them are satisfied with the state of their services in Nigeria . Therefore, it seems to be a reason that the government is technically thwarting and manipulating the process so that it is not on the receiving end in this debacle.

Now is the best time for the government to jump in at the deep end and shut down this case, but it lacks the political will to do so. Undeniably, the government is alarmed by the brutal consequences, therefore the implementation of the already signed Memorandum of Understanding or any renegotiation for that matter is difficult, but the government is strategic enough to manipulate ASUU to go back to classes without their demands being met. executed. In that sense, we can predict more strike action. God forbid.

The best way to permanently tackle this problem is to impose tuition fees or privatize universities. This decision may seem boring, but it is the best solution to this endless union action that is depriving students of their future. It is unequivocal that there will be a setback in the efforts of lower-class students to pay for tuition and other utilities, but the government should introduce a highly beneficial and inclusive student loan scheme that allows students to borrow from the treasury. from the government without knowing anyone. This decision is workable because it works in many countries. May Nigeria prosper.
