Katsina: Police foil operation suspected kidnappers, kill one

Officers from Katsina State Police Command thwarted an attempt by some kidnappers to harass commuters along the Sabuwa-Mararabar Yakawada road in Sabuwa State Local Government Area.

Sources revealed that 30 terrorists stormed the road around 2:45 p.m. that day and were about to operate when a police team from the municipality intervened.

The sources went on to say that the encounter sparked a fierce firefight between the police team and the gang of terrorists, leading to the death of one of the kidnapped gang members.

Police revealed that one AK-47 rifle and four motorcycles were recovered from the terrorists.

Katsina Police Command spokesman SP Gambo Isah confirmed the development Thursday morning.

He explained: “On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at approximately 2:45 PM, an emergency call was received that 30 terrorists, on motorcycles, armed with AK-47 rifles, were blocking the Sabuwa-Mararabar Yakawada road, Sabuwa Local Government Area of ​​Katsina State. with intent to rob and kidnap.

“After receiving the report, DPO Sabuwa Division led a tactical unit to the area and engaged in a fierce firefight with the gangsters. The team successfully evicted the terrorists from their gruesome mission.

“While scanning the scene, a terrorist was neutralized, an AK-47 rifle and four of their operational motorcycles were recovered. It is feared that many terrorists have been neutralized and/or have escaped from the scene with gunshot wounds. The investigation is still ongoing.”
