A teacher at Kwara State University (KWASU), Mr. Idris Oladimeji, was reportedly killed in a horrific car accident on Thursday.
OnlineTribune found that the car accident, which occurred in the Oko-Olowo area along the Ilorin-Jebba highway, was the result of overtaking a semi-trailer truck.
It also turned out that the truck with trailer ran over the car in which the university lecturer was driving, resulting in a fatal accident.
In a statement from the university’s registrar, Dr. Kikelomo Sallee said on Friday that the deceased would be missed “because he displayed qualities of outstanding scholarship and devotion to the service.
“With a heavy heart but submission to the will of the Almighty, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN announces the passing of a dedicated alumnus of our University, Mr. Idris Oladimeji.
“Mr. Idris died yesterday, Thursday, August 25, 2022, in a car accident on his way from campus to Ilorin, via the Oko-Olowo Express road.
“Mr. Idris obtained his first and second diplomas at KWASU. He has only just completed his M.Sc. in Politics and Governance and was once financial secretary of the Alumni Association.
“He was a committed student. His dedication made him take on tasks assigned by his mentors. This is in the nature of postgraduate studies where students not only train in their academic work but also participate in other activities of the department such as supervised teaching and surveillance.
“He will be missed for displaying qualities of excellent scholarship and devotion to his duty.
“As we pray for the rest of his soul, we urge the University Community to pray for his family and loved ones as well.”
