Murders: Taraba community seeks deployment of military personnel

The Ichen community of Bissaula in Kurmi Local Government Area of ​​Taraba State on Saturday called on the Commission of Inquiry set up by the government to unravel the issues surrounding the Ichen/Ndaka crisis to submit its report.

The Ichen community said the timely submission of the report will enable the government to follow through on their recommendations to end the killings.

An Ichen elder and community leader, Ebi Bako, also called on Governor Darius Ishaku at a news conference in Jalingo to facilitate the deployment of military personnel in the area to prevent unprovoked attacks and killings that continue to take place in the area.

Bako said: “We would like to thank Governor Darius Ishaku for establishing a commission of inquiry to address the root causes of the conflict and find a lasting solution.

“As a peace-loving and law-abiding people, the Ichen Community of Bissaula calls on the Commission of Inquiry to submit its report on time so that lasting peace will return to the Bissaula community.

“The Ichen community of Bissaula is also calling on the governor as an urgent matter to ensure that military personnel are permanently stationed in Bissaula to enforce peace between the Ichen and the Ndaka people.

“The government must also ensure that the perpetrators and their accomplices are apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the laws of the country.”

The Ichen community also called for a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of the chairman of the Vigilante group in Kurmi, Emmanuel Zachariah, in relation to the recent interception of armed cartridges in the village of Didan.
