We will participate in the Osun LG survey – IPAC

The leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council in Osun state said on Friday that 16 of the 18 registered political parties in the state would participate in the October 15 local elections.

Osun IPAC chairman Simon Adebayo, flanked by 14 other presidents of various political parties in the state, declared election readiness in a speech to journalists in Osogbo.

However, he ordered OSIEC to ensure that the poll was conducted in accordance with the OSIEC electoral laws and the 2022 Election Act.

He said: “The political parties under the auspices of IPAC have met and brought thoughts together and have come to the conclusion that, as the local government and the development areas of the local council are closest to the citizens, IPAC will take every positive step to bring good governance to the people.

“In this sense, IPAC fully supports the conduct of the election by the Election Management Body, ie the Election Commission for the Independence of Osun State. Of course, we hardly need to emphasize that the elections must be transparent and free, fair and credible.”

Also, IPAC secretary Tosin Odeyemi, who said the People’s Democratic Party and All Peoples Party were two political parties not interested in the election, also explained that OSIEC had notified parties ahead of the 2020 poll.

“But due to the arrival of COVID-19 and EndSARS protest, the elections could not go ahead,” concluded Odeyemi.
